Abhyanga

Abhyanga is a therapy that involves applying ayurvedic medicated oil to the body with a light to medium touch. Different from a regular massage, the oil is applied for its therapeutic benefits including grounding, relaxing and softening the muscles, ligaments and connective tissue. The heated oil causes the tissues to release built up toxins. Repeated applications of oil dissolves the sticky toxins, which build up in the tissues, and helps to revive the metabolism and reopen the channels, removing obstructions in the tissues. Abhyanga is one of the best treatments for balancing Vata dosha.

Three sessions are recommended for maximum therapeutic benefits although one session will have a positive impact.

Shirodhara

Shirodhara is an ancient ayurvedic therapy that involves pouring warm oil slowly over the forehead for around 15 minutes. The session begins with a head, neck and shoulder massage with an ayurvedic medicated oil to relax the muscles and calm the senses.

Shirodhara therapy is particularly calming for Vata dosha, but it is very good for everyone. It promotes a calm state of mind, and is especially helpful for treatment of stress, anxiety, nervousness, insomnia, shaking or tremors in the body, depression, and most mental conditions.

By calming down the sympathetic nervous system, you decrease its energy requirements, freeing energy for healing, rejuvenation and strengthening of the immune system.

Three treatment sessions at one to two day intervals are recommended to receive the full benefit of Shirodhara
